STATEMENT

Philosopher Joseph Joubert wrote, “Without light there is no space.” How true can that be! From the fundamentals of age-old

classical painting, the study of form is not possible without light. Light not only gives form but also gives emotive quality to spaces,

objectifying plain dimensions into magical social realms that communicate and evoke feelings.

“Perceptions of Spaces” is a documentary of places that I remember. I remember these places not because of what was present, but

for the light that was there. The light that defined the space and the light that etched into my memory a perception of that place.

Details are no longer important and precision is no longer about perspectives and ratios as realism is explored at another level,

which is in the state of our minds. The images might not be of the places as they appeared but certainly they looked like how they

have been felt. Opposing the traditions of architectural photography authorities especially the German ambassadors of New

Objectivity Photography movement, this collective reveals a different way of documenting spaces. A myriad of manipulation was

done such as over-exposure, rotation of the image and contrast adjustment to achieve a close representation of this mental

perception. Based on the precept of visual cognition theories that explains the ways we see, our visual perception coupled with our

emotional response may be deceiving but this in itself is a reality worthy to be embraced.
